As most woodworkers and woodturners will know, Record Power is a world-renowned UK brand, with its historic roots planted firmly in Sheffield, England. In recent years we have been developing and expanding our UK-based manufacturing capacity, beginning with the acquisition of the CamVac brand of dust extraction machines back in 2014.
Further significant investment over the last two years has allowed even greater expansion of our production department – which is now the largest in the company – to give us the ability to competitively manufacture a much wider range of products with greater control of quality and cost.
We are proud to now feature the prestigious Made in Sheffield and Made in Britain marks across our ranges of turning tools and CamVac dust extractors and look forward to applying them to a growing number of products in the future.
Our increase in UK manufacturing is part of a long-term initiative to expand our portfolio of unique and exclusive products. This range is now exported to over 30 countries, allowing Record Power to expand significantly across the globe whilst also creating local jobs and making a positive contribution to the UK’s manufacturing industry.
The CamVac range of dust extraction machines are made in Sheffield, UK at Record Power’s in-house manufacturing facility. They have a range of great features which make them ideal for collecting wood dust in the home workshop and can be used on a wide variety of woodworking machinery. They are incredibly popular in the UK and Europe, with a huge increase in demand in recent years fuelling greater and greater expansion of our UK production facility.
Cyclonic Inlet Design – Waste is directed around the edges of the drum, to create a cyclonic motion, reducing contact with the filters, increasing their lifespan, and making them ideal for heavier waste such as wood chippings, as well as fine dust.
Three-Stage Filtration to 0.5 Microns – CamVac extractors handle very fine dust much better than traditional chip extractors, making them ideal for collecting fine waste, including sanding dust from lathes.
Low Noise Output – CamVac machines are much quieter than other machines of the high-pressure-low-volume design, especially if the optional 2 ½” hose is attached to the motor exhaust.
Versatility – Using a range of adaptors and reducers, CamVac machines can be used to extract dust from anything from jointers and planers to small hand-held power tools. They are also ideal for powering full workshop extraction systems, thanks to their high-pressure-low-volume performance, which ensures strong suction even through long lengths of hose.
Compactness – The design of CamVac extractors makes them ideal for tucking away beneath benches and lathes, saving valuable workshop space.

Record Power has a long and impressive history. Established in Sheffield, the heart of the UK’s steel industry, and stretching back over 100 years, we enjoy an enviable reputation for creating high quality tools through our many years of experience and unparalleled knowledge in manufacturing and design. Our policy of continual improvement and development has seen us remain at the forefront of tool manufacturing whilst also acquiring and developing such brands as Coronet of Derby, Burgess from Leicester, the industrial brand Startrite and CamVac.
The Record Power brand is well-known worldwide and in particular the US and Canada as Record products have historically been imported to these markets with great success.
The Record Power head office, manufacturing facility and distribution centre is still located in Sheffield and from this base we also design and manufacture a growing number of Record Power and CamVac products and our in-house quality control department ensures our standards remain consistently high. Many of our staff have been with us for over 20 years, with some having up to 40 years of service, ensuring we still retain and pass on our in-depth knowledge and expertise in hand and machine tool manufacturing and use. This gives us the distinct advantage of being able to continue to design, develop, manufacture and source a comprehensive and wide-ranging selection of premium quality products to meet the needs of discerning woodworkers.
Recent investment in our in-house manufacturing capabilities has seen a marked increase in our ranges of UK-made products, with our strategic emphasis being placed very firmly in this area. In addition, our commitment to British-made products has been recognised by our membership of the Made in Sheffield and Made in Britain organisations. Our production department now employs more than any other in the business and continues to expand to meet the ever-growing demand for high-quality UK-made products.
We are proud to now offer our core range of unique products to woodturners and woodworkers in the US and Canada. Our ranges of Coronet lathes and SC series woodturning chucks, along with our UK-made turning tools, lathe accessories and CamVac dust extraction range, offer what we believe is the ultimate in quality, versatility and value. All these products are backed up by our market-leading 5-year guarantee, demonstrating our confidence not only in the quality of their manufacture but also in their performance, reliability and ease-of-use.
